History:I have few recollections of the time before Starfleet found me and I was given a chance to be someone, even though that someone can hardly be measured by common standards since my age, species and most of what I've learned to call *I* is at best arguable data. 17 years ago a Starfleet ship on patrol alighted in the middle of a fight between two merchant freighters. I was part of the cargo, a dozen slaves to be bought and sold- - in my case from a failing exotic fair traveling the most remote areas of known space to astonish populations with a display of living aberrations. Beyond that, my origins are a mystery, much written upon. For the scientific layman I'd recommend What is little Patch made of, an accurate if sensationalistic account of my genetic makeup. The odds that the experiment that created me from a number of genetic strands, not all from sentient creatures, not all from known species, should even produce a single half-success, were almost nil. This half-success was called Patch, until it changed overnight from a non descript creature into a female sentient humanoid (In the linguistics section you'll find studies on my apprenticeship of language. They usually center around my learning to talk about myself in the first person. Quite an interesting read too).*I* thus became Talih Taan, and was adopted by a couple of teachers just before they left for the Entras colony. I have 5 siblings, all orphans and crossbred. I really liked the Entras at first, until they changed this icy planet and its permanent twilight into a world of clearly defined nights and days. They melted the brown snows, and the caves were flooded. When I turned 16, my secret place was flooded, too, and that's when I left. I didn't belong there anymore. You could argue I don't belong anywhere. I'd answer I belong where my blood takes me, and for the next 5 years, that strange journey led me to the strangest places. I traveled along with the Children of Kapian to those dark pockets of misery the Federation's arm can't reach. Served with the Companions of Lilim in some of the most obscure underworlds - - wherever trade roads meet. That's where I found Sophie and brought her home to Earth and her family. I found a home there, too, and followed in the family tradition by joining Starfleet. Maybe I was studied too much in the past to care for studies myself. Five years of practical experience certainly came in handy then. Whatever I am, and as totally devoid of special talents as I stand, I have at least found in myself a natural gift for healing. The same previous experience had me assigned to some of the worst postings, where circumstances dictated that I took responsibilities above my official capacity. But the daily struggle to face the emptiness of space in those tiny bubbles called starships took its toll on me. I was granted transfer to Starbase Bravo, and in spite of my age and short career, promoted to the position of Chief Nurse. That's as much as there is to say about me, the rest people can see for themselves. Only you may have to look closely sometimes..
