Cordi Xan

Federation Starfleet Commodore
Commanding Officer, Starbase Bravo and USS Lexington NCC-52709
Race: Joined Trill (Host + Symbiont)
Current Male Host: born Cordi Malvo, December 17, 2348
Xan Symbiont: spawned 2075 in the underground pools of the Mak'ala caves
Homeworld: Trill
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 180 lbs.
Hair: Blond
Eyes: Blue-Green (Aqua)
General physical description:
Cordi is tall, trim, and good-looking, with a full head of floppy blond
hair, bright eyes that sparkle with mischievousness, an infectious grin,
and distinctive Trill spots that run vertically down each side of his
body from temple to toe. Xan is a symbiont, a small sentient creature,
resembling a slug, which inhabits the abdominal cavity of its humanoid
host and is completely dependent on him for mobility.  In exchange,
Cordi gains the memories, wisdom, and knowledge of Xan's previous hosts.
A symbiont is hermaphroditic and lives for centuries, although once
joined it needs a host in order to survive.  The only outward physical
sign of the joining is a small flap of skin on the host's lower abdominal
area, although all Trill humanoids have these, whether they are joined
or not.
General personality profile:
Cordi Xan is unique combination of Cordi Malvo and the accumulated
history of the Xan symbiont.  Cordi was a young, brash, naive,
hyper-energetic young Starfleet officer when he was joined; Xan brought
him a new, patient perspective and demeanor-- the wisdom of multiple
lifetimes.  He also found a knowledge & appreciation for the varied
cultures of the galaxy he didn't have before.  Cordi Xan's personality
has absorbed some of the qualities from previous hosts: fatherly &
understanding from Joral, eccentric & playful from Remy, aggressive &
passionate from Kellin, quirky & serious from Elora, calm & compassionate
from Arlis.   The conglomeration of all this and more leads to new
discoveries within himself and uncharted depths he has yet to plumb.
Personal history:
Cordi Malvo was born and raised on Trill, on the beautiful beaches of
the purple Selipsis Sea.  He is the oldest of three children born to
Brinn and Imra Malvo in the small resort community of Marhat Beach.
Neither his parents nor his younger siblings, Garr and Teenal, have
been joined. Cordi was a carefree, adventurous, and imaginative child.
As he grew, he developed the desire to achieve the honor of becoming
a host, the Trill humanoid who bears a symbiont and is mentally linked
with it.  Joining is rare among the populace, and only about one in
one thousand Trill are joined.
Through years of strict training and discipline, his application to be
joined was approved the Symbiosis Evaluation Board, and he became a member
of the Initiate Corps, the elite group of Trill hosts in training to
receive a symbiont.  The call to be joined finally came in the line of
duty, serving Starfleet & the Federation, and his life has been changed
ever since. Although he doesn't get back to his homeworld nearly as
often as he should, Cordi enjoys his work with other Trill as a field
docent, where he, as a joined Trill, shows potential hosts what
experience of being joined is like.
He then recommends for or against the candidate's continuing in the
symbiosis program.  Cordi's personal hobbies include skills picked up
from previous hosts, including gardening, painting, playing the
trumpet, a love of animals, and cooking exotic alien foods.
Professional history:
Cordi Malvo attended and graduated Federation Starfleet Academy, with the
knowledge that members of the Trill Initiate Corps hold a unique place in
Starfleet as emergency hosts for joined Trill Starfleet Officers.  In fact,
he was serving as Assistant Operations Officer on the USS Hood in early
2375 when the distress call came that his immediate joining was required
in service to Starfleet and the Federation.  Starfleet Diplomatic Corps
Admiral Arlis Xan, the current host of the Xan symbiont, had been mortally
wounded in the line of duty during the climax of the Dominion War.
The knowledge of the Xan symbiont was required to complete a series of
complex peace negotiations with Dominion allies on behalf of the Federation.
Xan was transferred to Cordi, who was fully prepared for joining, and
had been waiting for this moment for years.  With the Xan symbiont's
talent, knowledge, and skills, Cordi Xan completed the delicate
egotiations successfully.
The newly joined Trill took an extended leave from active duty to reassess
his career goals, and absorb the subtleties of his newly formed, merged
personality.  His modest goals as an operations officer were supplanted by
his newly found command skills and knowledge of diplomacy and negotiation,
provided by the memories of a seasoned Starfleet veteran.  Starfleet
Command agreed with this assessment, promoted him two ranks, and assigned
him command of Starbase Bravo-- an assignment that would benefit from his
unique skills & knowledge, balancing the superpowers of the Beta Quadrant
on a Federation protectorate outpost.
History of the symbiont & previous hosts:
The Xan symbiont was spawned in the viscous underground pools in the
caves of Mak'ala on the Trill homeworld sometime during the year 2075.
It spent months in their milky depths, tended by the Guardians, and
communicating with other symbionts not yet been joined via electrical
energy discharges.  It has been passed on from one host to another,
over five humanoid lifetimes.  Cordi is the sixth host.

Joral Xan - Male, first host; Trill Government Council legislator, educator,
gentleman farmer, retired artist & craftsman.  Happily married for over 75
years and father of 13 children, 52 grandchildren, and 112 great-grandchildren.
Family was the most important thing to him, over all. Loved the majesty of the
Teneran ice cliffs.  Fatherly & understanding.
Remy Xan - Female, second host; exobiologist, zoologist, astrophysicist,
exoarchaeologist and co-founder of the Trill Science Ministry.  Served on
Committee for First Contact with outside worlds.  Married and mother of
four children, four grandchildren.  Amateur musician, artist.  Spent her
vacation time at the Hoobishan Baths, a famous spa on Trill.  Although
she was a scientist, she was really the funky, artistic type.  Eccentric
& playful.
Kellin Xan - Male; third host; Trill Ambassador to the Federation.
Romulan collaborator and defector.  Negotiated trade agreements between
the Imperium and the Klingon Empire, including the exchange of cloaking
technology. Unmarried, but engaged to a Romulan businesswoman.  Was
killed by renegade Klingon assassins bent on destroying the treaty, and
died sacrificing himself for the Romulan Star Empire.  The Xan symbiont
miraculously saved and returned to Trill homeworld. Aggressive & passionate.
Dr. Elora Xan - Female, fourth host; medical researcher at the Symbiosis
Commission complex on Trill.  Specialist in isoboramine level treatment.
Asked specifically for the Xan symbiont to monitor the effects of extreme
personality transmigration.  The memories and personality of Kellin were
sometimes almost overwhelming.  Served on the Symbiosis Evaluation Board,
the committee that evaluates individuals applying to be joined.  Never
married. Lots of cats.  Quirky & serious.
Arlis Xan - Female, fifth host; Starfleet Admiral in the Federation
Diplomatic Corps. Previously served as Captain of the diplomatic starship
USS Olivier for over ten years, and served under Jean-Luc Picard on the
USS Stargazer.  A Starfleet widow, she was married to Dalt Trindar, an
unjoined Trill, and was the mother of two children,  Karina & Dagmond,
now adults. Died in the line of duty during the Dominion War.  Calm &
compassionate.
